API 560 first edition which was issued in 1986 was a mere 62 pages long. The fifth edition of API-560, which was issued in 2016, is almost 327 pages long. There have been a lot of additions and some deletions/ modifications to the specifications as the industry developed and started using it. I came to know about API-560 in 1982 when a vendor brought a draft copy of API-560 standard and gave it to us. There was no established industry heater standard prior to the API -560 standard.
